Worldface Announcement

Worldface started life in November 2009 after Phil from teamfishcake and a friend of his came up with the idea. We hoped it would be successful, but didn't have any idea exactly how successful it would be.

We were linked to from messageboards, the massively popular b3ta.com newsletter, and we were mentioned in the mainstream media. We are incredibly grateful that this exposure has enabled us to reach audiences we may otherwise never have reached.

Moderating the site until 3 O'Clock in the morning was a problem we loved to hate. Although tiring, your posts were making us laugh and we really enjoyed the fact that we had created something people loved.

We have always tried to stick to the same moderation policy. We won't delete posts we simply don't like. We will only delete spam. By spam, we mean unnecessarily abusive posts, repetitious posts, posts with illegal content and so on.

In our opinion, and speaking only generally, the quality of posts submitted recently have become so poor that the line between what is spam and what isn't spam has been significantly blurred. The situation has reached the point where we are receiving emails of complaint and there are now even arguments between users on the site fighting about what should and shouldn't be posted about. This isn't what Worldface was made for. The site has ceased to be something we want to be associated with and we no longer enjoy running it.

Therefore, we will be "retiring" the site at 2PM UK Time on Tuesday 27th July.

This isn't a decision we have come to lightly, and we know some of you will be angry with us. Sorry, but we are not prepared to let the site continue its decline. No more status posts, comments or groups. In the next week or so, we'll be extracting some classic quotes from the site and leaving them there as a reminder of the fun times.

We just want to say a sincere thanks to all the people that made Worldface a roaring success.

(Of course, Team Fishcake will be carrying on with many more silly projects, so feel free to stick around.)

Cheers

Team Fishcake

Changes and Content

To all the lovely people who are still enjoying worldface:

You've probably noticed a change in our moderation policy recently, which a lot of you have been calling for. It hopefully won't come as a surprise to you to find out that looking after worldface is not actually our main job. We created it for a bit of fun and certainly didn't expect it to last as long as it has.

We are very pleased that people have continued to use it, but need to clarify our position a little.

Firstly, on the topic of spam...
Spam and quality of content are not the same thing. Our responsibility is getting rid of the spam and the responsibility for the quality of the content is with the users.

Secondly, we at Teamfishcake are always trying to concentrate on new and fresh ideas, so while we are happy that people are still enjoying worldface, our main focus will always be creating new ideas for the main teamfishcake site. We are currently looking in to the possiblity of having more moderators.

One of the facts about running a 'user generated content' website is that you can't please all the people all of the time. There's going to be stuff in here that people don't like. And you know what - there's not a lot we can do about that. This is the nature of Worldface. This is what you've got. We'll remove spam, abuse and any other unsuitable messages, but we're not going to act as editors, otherwise we'll open ourselves up for all sorts of criticism about favouritism, censorship and all that nonsense. And we can't be bothered with all that.

Thanks for supporting the site and spreading the word,
Team Fishcake

Things

Wow, are you lot still here?

We're amazed that people are still enjoying Worldface, and we've been listening to your comments. Phil Fishcake is moving house at the moment, but once he's settled, he'll be adding a few new features.

That's right, new features, oh yes!

Political Neutrality

Aside from all the jokes, silliness and cheeky stereotypes, there are a large amount of posts and comments on Worldface that are quite political in nature. However, one of the things we decided as admins/moderators on here is that we have to stay as politically "neutral" as possible.

We have been asked by some people to do certain things with regard to taking sides in political situations, but as hard as it may be in some circumstances, we just have to let them go by.

We certainly won't censor anybody for the simple reason that we disagree with them. We only get rid of statuses and comments that we consider to be offensive/racist/libellous (plus ones that don't make sense). However, at the same time, as moderators, we won't favour anything that we consider to be 'taking sides' - even if we agree with it.

Feel free to post political news as suggestions. If they don't appear, it doesn't necessarily mean we disagree with it.

Keeps on growing...

Hi you lot! First of all, cheers for taking part in Worldface; feedback has been extremely positive so far, and I think we all need to gently stroke Phil Fishcake's face for putting together such a magnificent application. We do genuinely appreciate all the forum posts and tweets, gently giggling to ourselves as we find them.

Also, despite people suggesting otherwise, we're perfectly happy to keep this site ad-free. We genuinely have no sense at all. Don't forget to check out the rest of our stuff at www.teamfishcake.co.uk !

Comments and suggestions are always welcome, so keep 'em coming!

Thanks!

Question for our French visitors

Hi to our neighbours visiting from France. Thanks for stopping by. We have a quick question for you!

We've noticed that many of you are visiting WorldFace after seeing us mentioned on the website of Le Monde.

The question we have is this: Do you know if we are mentioned in the actual newspaper? Or are we only mentioned on their website?

Thanks!
